Antichrist. A Muin review.

In short the 'controversy' of the year. Theres always bloody one. In short the story is this: Couple having sex then their toddler son falls out of his bedroom window to his death. Wife goes mental so her therapist husband takes her away to a woodland cabin. We think he’s a sadist, but its the wife who really is, smashing him in the genitals with a block of wood then masturbates him until he ejaculates blood. She then cuts his penis off then drills a hole in his leg and bolts on a grinding wheel, she then gets aroused beside him, masturbates then proceeds to cut off her clitoris with a pair of scissors (this is shown) then he awakes strangles her to death..he burns the body and escapes into the woods where he is surrounded by mental children with blurry faces. And there is a fox that says: “Chaos reigns!” The End. Indeed. For the mainstream it makes Lynch seem like Disney. For others it a pastiche...Trier said he had depression throughout the shooting. You can tell.

Justifying it he said: “I don’t have a choice. It’s the hand of God, I’m afraid. And I am the best film director in the world. I’m not sure God is the best god in the world.”

Well I'm not sure either Lars...about it all. Its a fascinating misogynist, sexist, indulgent mutilation for the eyes with beautiful -quite simply stunning- iced pictures. Imagine Don't Look Know meets The Devils meets Chien Andalou on the way to Scandinavian Giallo Snuff. Of course the Freudian/Jungian/Laingian blah..blah..''emancipation
of the male/oedipus'' themes are there (of course!) but watching it, you get that uneasiness. It's that same feeling.. when that bloke is walking fast towards you, you know the one.. that sweaty over 40ish, unshaven, same jeans tshirt jacket on for weeks, that whiff of drink...walking right towards you, hair fizzles with deep repression, hes noticed your there but then stops and spits hard, right on the pavement as you step in it and he knows, you both know and he gives that split second look, disgust and lust all at once. That same feeling...that same feeling is Antichrist. The unshaven carnal long dull bloodshot that is every single shot in this film.

I just read that it might be getting made into a game.

I'm really not sure I want to play something we are already playing anyway...
